Hi all!

Today I thought I would address the issue of oily skin and how I try and reduce shine. I've had oily skin ever since being a teenager and I wish I had access to blogs and You Tube back then as I feel like I have learnt so much on how to control the oiliness of my skin. A lot of awkward and self conscious teenage days could have been avoided!

In this post I will cover both some skin care and some makeup items that I really enjoy.

First of all though, some general points.

My skin is oily, acne prone and can be sensitive. This post is focusing on combating oiliness but I also get spots regularly (which I know often comes hand in hand with oily skin), have acne scarring, redness and sensitivity so bare that in mind - this links in with the next point!

Everybody's skin is different. Even though I have oily skin and you may have oily skin this doesn't mean that what works for me will work for you and vice versa.

I always moisturise both morning and night. (I say always, I may skip moisturising at night when I'm <strike>drunk</strike> knackered). I have heard differing opinions on this and I know some people say if you have oily skin you don't need to moisturise - I disagree. I am firmly in the camp of if I don't moisturise my skin will try and compensate and produce more oil - obviously not what I want! Besides that my skin feels tight if I don't moisturise and my makeup doesn't go on as nicely.

I don't over exfoliate. I tend to exfoliate once a week (twice at most). As mentioned previously my skin can be sensitive so I feel like exfoliating any more than that may aggravate it and also encourage oil production.

Mattifying papers! These are a must for me. I'm currently using the ones by Kleenex but I also like the Beauty Parlour ones (available at Superdrug). I always carry these in my bag and tend to blot on my lunch hour, after work or whenever I feel like I need it!

Let's talk specific products!

I bought this mask from a local organic shop, but you can also purchase it from www.feelunique.com for £7.70 and free delivery. If you have a quick search on Google I'm sure there are other places you can find it too.

I tend to use this once a week but may use it more or less depending on how my skin feels. For example if my skin is breaking out particularly badly I will probably reach for this. This product is specifically for normal and oily skin. I feel like this dries any spots up and makes my skin feel fresh, clean and more firm.

I use this every morning after washing my face. It's a very lightweight moisturiser that prevents my skin from feeling oily but also gives it enough moisture to stop it feeling tight.

I have had this a long time and can't quite remember where I purchased it from. I think it may have been www.cultbeauty.co.uk - it costs £20 which may seem like a lot for a 6g product but you only need a small amount and it lasts for ages. It is very hard to describe the texture of this but Cult Beauty's website describes it like a balm which I think is better than anything I could come up with! I apply this to my T-Zone prior to applying any other makeup, you can use this on top of makeup too (I haven't tried that). This is my absolute miracle, go to, holy grail product. If you invest in any product to help combat oiliness then I would highly recommend it be this one. It truly makes a huge difference, it doesn't cake up or look heavy like a powder might as it's completely clear. I will definitely be repurchasing this when I run out.

I bought this from Superdrug for £7.49 but I'm sure you can find it at lots of other places too. Shop around and see where it's cheapest! This is a fairly new release from Garnier. I also own their original BB cream which isn't specifically for combination to oily skin and I found it to be very much like a tinted moisturiser and far too oily for my skin. This new version is fabulous; it offers great coverage - I would say medium, and lasts well on my skin without looking too matte or cakey. I have been applying this with a stippling brush as I like the coverage that gives. Let me know if you have this how you apply it! In general I try and go for a foundation or base that is specifically for oily skin or is long wearing. I do find it hard to find one that has these qualities but isn't too full coverage or cakey. I have also tried Revlon Colourstay, Esteé Lauder Double Wear and Double Wear Light but they are a bit too full coverage for me at the moment.

Finally, I always set my makeup with a powder. I cannot get away without using this step no matter what skin care or makeup I use. I haven't found my perfect setting powder yet so would love your recommendations! I carry the 17 Miracle Matte powder in my handbag (and also have used the foundation from this range), but I find the foundation very hard to blend in and the powder looks cakey quite quickly. They do keep my skin matte but I don't like the cakey look they can give. I love the Laura Geller Balance n Brighten foundation (I use this as a setting powder), but not specifically for combating oiliness.

Unfortunately though they are very hard to come across. Revlon have a few but even those are hard to find. That's why I decided to buy a matte top coat, and with the Elf one being only £1.50 (from www.eyeslipsface.co.uk) there's no excuse not to give it a go! You use this as a top coat, and it transforms a regular glossy nail varnish into a matte finish nail varnish.

Below are some pictures of the nail varnish combination I'm wearing today, using the Elf Matte Finisher Nail Polish as a top coat.
I really like the effect this product gives, and it is a much cheaper alternative than buying lots of individual matte nail varnishes.

Do you have this product or any other matte top coat products? What do you think of matte nail varnishes in general?
However, this, in my experience at least, is certainly not always the case.

The majority of my makeup and beauty products are from chemists (drugstores) or inexpensive websites. I do have a few high end / department store products, namely Esteé Lauder Double Wear foundation, (which I do love), and my NARS Sheer Glow foundation, (which I do not love, and it smells a little bit like bacon flavoured crisps to me, which is odd). Some MAC, Urban Decay and Benefit.

I certainly can not afford to be buying lots of high end expensive products, and I'm sure a lot of you can't either. And I am here to tell you we don't need to! There are so many fabulous inexpensive products for us to try. And the great thing about spending less, especially if you've never tried it before, is that it isn't a massive waste of money if it isn't the product for you!

So here are my top ten inexpensive products:

1. Baby Wipes

Now these can be found pretty much anywhere that sells beauty products, including supermarkets. They are really cheap, depending on the brand. The one's I'm currently using are Boots Fragrance Free Sensitive Wipes and they were less than £1 for 72 wipes. I bought the sensitive ones because I do have very sensitive skin, I have however used 'normal' baby wipes and these work great for me too. I just think if they are ok for babies, they must be ok for us too! I use these every night to remove my makeup and I love them. I find that quite often with face washes or cleansers my skin can react badly to them but baby wipes make my skin feel clean and they don't make me break out. These ones do say not to use them on the eye area, however I do sometimes use baby wipes to remove my eye makeup too when I'm feeling lazy and can't be bothered to use a separate eye makeup remover. I have very sensitive eyes and I've never had any problems but it's up to you if you want to risk it. You do have to rub a bit more than you would with an actual eye makeup remover though. There are obviously good and bad baby wipes. I've bought some before which were two for £1 from a pound shop and they were awful, really dry and scratchy so now I just use them to clean my hands when I'm putting my makeup on. They were only 50p each so hardly a waste of money!

2. Elf Healthy Glow Bronzing Powder in Luminance

As you can see from this picture, I love this product as I've hit pan ( I bought this in November of last year). There are four different shades, Sun Kissed, Warm Tan, Luminance and Matte Bronze. Luminance is the palest of the four. The colours will suit a wide range of skin tones, but maybe not particularly dark skin. The one I have is a really shimmery, pale golden bronzer and I like to apply this with a big fluffy brush all over my face, building it up for more golden shimmer if its night-time. This was £1.50 ( I know!). Elf (www.eyeslipsface.co.uk) is a brilliant website to check out for inexpensive makeup, I love it. It definitely can be a bit hit and miss but with the products being so affordable, if you get a miss hopefully you won't be too upset about it. They have a whole range of products for £1.50 each, and some more 'expensive' lines (by expensive I'm talking £3.50). Also if you like their Facebook page you'll find out when they have special offers on, which is very regularly, check it out!

3. Rimmel Match Perfection Skin Tone Adapting Concealer 2-in-1 Concealer and Highlighter (Ivory)

This is my very favourite concealer for under my eyes, ever! £5.99 from Boots, I thought I'd got mine from Superdrug but I can't find it on their website. They do sell Rimmel products though and they can quite often be a bit cheaper than Boots so check your local Superdrug to see if they sell this product. Rimmel only make this product in three shades: Ivory, Classic Beige and Soft Beige, but as the title suggests this product is supposed to adapt to your specific skin tone. I doubt this would work for dark skin though. I use Ivory because I do have quite light skin anyway but also I like the concealer under my eyes to be lighter than a concealer on my face as it just brightens things up and makes you look more awake. You don't need a lot of this product for it to do it's job, and because of that it doesn't crease or get into the fine lines under the eyes. Love it!

4. L'Oreal 6 Hour Glam Shine Gloss Brilliance in Oriental Fuschia

This is a gorgeous highly pigmented non-sticky lipgloss, and it really does last a long time, it almost stains the lips. I love it. This particular colour is a deep shimmery pink. I actually got mine free when I spent over a certain amount on L'Oreal products at Boots a few months ago. Under normal circumstances this is £8.69 from Boots and Superdrug. Looking at the L'Oreal website this currently comes in 20 shades.

5. Jordana Eye Primer/Base

cherryculture.com for $1.99, BUT the cheapest shipping, as far as I can see is $10.56. So maybe wait until you have a lot of things you want to order before using this website. I've never used it myself so I don't know a whole lot about it, this information is just from me looking at the website now. There may well be other places to order it from, do your research, or befriend someone in America who can send it to you! Back to the performance of the product. It is really creamy and thick, and gives a fabulous base to my eyeshadow, just as good as UDPP which is a lot more expensive at £13.05 currently at Debenhams. My eyeshadow does crease a little still, in this warmer weather, but it did that with the UDPP, and I do have oily lids.

6. Maybelline Dream Mousse Concealer (Natural)

Just as the Rimmel concealer above is my favourite concealer for under my eyes this is my favourite for my face. I am practically completely out of this and will definitely be re-purchasing it. I just searched for this on both the Boots and the Superdrug website and it's not there! Please don't tell me this has been discontinued! :( I have emailed Maybelline to ask them so I'll add a note to this post when I find out! (I asked a member of staff in Superdrug yesterday and she said she's pretty sure it has been discontinued, so annoying! I've now had an email back from Maybelline and they have confirmed this, they recommended the Dream Touch concealer instead). It's a fab concealer, really easy to blend and gives great coverage. According to the Maybelline website this comes in four shades: Nude beige, Natural, Sand and Rose beige. Again, no colours suitable for dark skin.

7. Elf Brightening Eye Colour Quad (Drama)

Another Elf product! This is another £1.50 product too. These quads come in 18 different varieties. I also have an Elf 32 eyeshadow palette. Like I said above, a lot of Elf's products are hit and miss and this applies to their eyeshadows too. However I would say the majority of the shadows I've tried have been good. They are not the most pigmented ever (compared with Urban Decay for example), but they are nice, especially for such a good price! They have a wide colour range too. I use the matte white from this quad every day as a highlight on my brow bone. It's perfect for me.

8. Accessorize Lip Gloss (Scandal)

Accessorize brought out their makeup range last year I believe and it's sold in Superdrug. This lip gloss is £3 and there are eight shades according to the Superdrug website. I love everything about this product, the packaging is gorgeous, it smells and tastes like butterscotch (yum!), and this particular shade, Scandal, is lovely. It looks like quite a scary hot pink but on the lips it's really wearable and pretty, and not sticky.

9. NYC Sky Rise Lengthening Mascara (Carbon)

NYC products are found at Superdug in the UK which is where I bought this mascara. However looking on their website now it's not there, what's going on! It is on NYC's own website at $1.99. Again I will email Coty (who own NYC) and ask them if it's been discontinued in the UK and add the info to this post when I find out. (Coty advised this product is available from selected Superdrug shops, I also looked in my local Superdrug today and saw it so maybe it's just not available online). Anywho, I love this mascara. When it comes to mascara I definitely prefer length to thickness. I like a thin brush rather than a thick brush. So depending on how you like your mascara's will depend on how you like this one. It has a long thin wand and brush, and really does lengthen and separate the lashes.

10. Maybelline Super Stay 24 Hour foundation (Ivory)

I bought this at either Boots or Superdug, I can't quite remember. As I can't see it on the Superdrug website I'm guessing it was Boots. It's £9.19 from the Boots website and according to the Maybelline website it comes in eight shades, quite a decent range, but again maybe nothing suitable for darker skin. I really like this foundation because it gives me decent coverage without it being too heavy or cakey, and has quite a natural finish. I do sometimes mix this with my Esteé Lauder Double Wear foundation in Desert Beige if I want some extra coverage, and I usually apply it using my Japonesque stippling brush (I will be doing a post on my favourite makeup brushes soon).

These are just ten of a lot of inexpensive products which I love.

Let me know your favourite inexpensive / drugstore products, and thanks for reading!

Hope you're all having a smashing week! I know I haven't written a blog post in forever but I really want to get back into it. So, I thought I'd ease myself in with a quick post about the makeup I wore to work today!

(Contain yourselves, I know it's pretty exciting!)

Quick side note, my x on my keyboard is sticking, which is weird....

Anywho... back to my FOTD (that stands for face of the day, if you didn't already know!). I always find it interesting to know what makeup people wear day to day, to work etc, so thought maybe some of you might find it interesting too! Whether it be out of pure nosy-ness (is that a word?) or to get some inspiration, I hope you enjoy!

The photos aren't the best quality but I'm hoping to invest in a camera that focuses soon so the quality should improve, bear with me!
I used the bottom right shade all over my lid, the far left shade on the outer half of my lid and in the crease, and the top right shade in the outer corner just to deepen it up and add some more dimension. These shadows aren't the most pigmented ever but they are pigmented enough, if that makes sense! Great for a neutral look and for work, hence why I chose to wear them today! NYC is a pretty inexpensive brand, I believe I bought this at Superdrug. Checking on Superdrug's website now, these are currently £2.99 reduced from £4.09 so get yours quick if you want one extra cheap!

(Do you like my attractive blue/grey carpet background here? Stylish I know...)
Ok, so this is what I used on my lower waterline. This is the Milani Liquif'eye Metallic Eye Liner Pencil in Black and it is the best eyeliner ever! I am in love with this product at the moment and have been wearing it pretty much every day since I got it. In fact I didn't wear any black eyeliner on Monday this week and I felt like I looked really weird! I'm just so used to wearing it now that it's become a necessity! This is the creamiest and most pigmented liner I've ever tried, way better than the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in Zero, which is just ok to me, but some people love. It is quite smudgy though (the Milani, in case anyone's confused at this point) and can transfer but I can put up with that when it's just so darn black, love it! I was actually sent this by a friend of mine who lives in America. I have seen very few Milani products in the UK so I'm not sure where or if us Brits can get one of these. Sorry!
The top one is the 2True Cheek 'n' Lip Tint, it doesn't appear to have a shade name or number, it just says 'Rose tinted stain for lips and cheeks'. When I first bought this product I did not like it. However I was simply using it wrong. It comes with a brush applicator attached to the lid (like a nail varnish), and I simply dotted the product onto my cheeks with the brush and then proceeded to try and blend it with my fingers. Because this is a stain it dried pretty fast, too fast to apply it using this method, so I was left with spotty, blotchy cheeks, never a good look. I now know the best way to work with this is to put the lid with the brush to one side, put my finger over the bottle opening, and tip! You then have a good amount of product on your finger and can then go ahead and apply this to the cheeks! I used about three 'tips', and used a kind of patting motion to blend it in. I didn't rub it in as I didn't want to rub away my foundation! You will get stained fingers applying it in this way but it washed off pretty easily. As a result of this method I now love this product, it's a gorgeous colour and it will last all day, even with my oily skin. (£1.99 from Superdrug).

The second blush I used was a powder blush from Elf called 'Glow'. I just applied this on top with a blush brush. (Apparently this is a good dupe for NARS Orgasm, I've never tried that so I couldn't confirm or deny, this is £1.50 from www.eyelipsface.co.uk).

These are the items I used on my lips! P2 lipstick in Ko (the 'o' in Ko actually has an umlaut over it but I don't know how to type one of those!). P2 is a German brand and this was sent to me by a friend of mine in Germany, I'm pretty sure they don't sell these products in any other country. If you can get your hands on them though I would highly recommend them, they are some of the creamiest lipsticks, evah! (I can spell, I was just saying it in a southern accent, obvs...). Highly pigmented, and really moisturising, I love these lipsticks.

The lipgloss was given to me one Christmas as a gift set of smellies, it's from Next and is a very light shimmery pink.

I applied both of these products with my fingers as the lipstick is a bit too full on for work when applied straight from the tube, I also didn't want to get lipstick on my lipgloss applicator so I applied that with my fingers too (just to the centre of my lips to create the illusion of fuller lips).

However, the major downside is the shape of the pencil, which means you have to have a specific NYC Flat Liner sharpener to be able to sharpen it. These are really hard to come across, especially in the UK and I have had to order mine from ebay which means I've paid more for the sharpener (inc p&p) than for the actual liner! It would be helpful if this fact was made clear when purchasing the liner, or if the sharpener was sold alongside it.

(legalese)

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14858243955370684609noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3535956703175755521.post-84526502192866422022011-04-02T12:07:00.001+01:002011-04-02T12:07:10.209+01:00My Review of Miss Sporty Lipstick

Originally submitted at Fragrance Direct

Perfect colours for every outfit!

I tear one in half and soak all four parts (two halves and two whole pads) in the gel. I then 'stick' the two halves under each eye, one under each. And then place the whole ones over my (closed) eye. I then press them on, gently, for as long as I want. The longer the better as this means the gel can disintegrate the make up as much as possible. Then I gently slide the cotton pads off, downwards, over my lashes. And, voila! Eye make up off with no rubbing :).

I love this method and adore this gel. It's definitely one of my best finds of 2010. It's cheap, which is always good, very cooling, soothing and refreshing, which is great for eyes which have been looking at a computer screen all day at work, and works really well. I have sensitive eyes and this causes me no problems at all.

I then remove my face make up using Boots Essentials Cucumber Cleansing Wipes (there's a bit of a theme here isn't there).

This is the third product I've tried in this range (I'll get to the second one soon), and I bought it because I loved the other two products. Again, a really inexpensive product. Quite often, because I have sensitive skin, wipes can make me go really red after using them, but this product doesn't at all. They are also nicely moist and soft, which is great for a cheap product, as I've found a big difference in the past with cheap and more expensive face wipes, in that the cheaper ones are often a lot dryer and more rough than the more expensive ones.

These wipes do not take all my make up off though, so I follow with Dr Cole Purifying Facial Toner.

I got this from www.jdwilliams.co.uk. I also used to have the cleansing lotion, day cream and night cream from this range but I had to chuck them as they made me skin and eyes sting, and the skin around my eyes got really dry and irritated just from the products being near them. I kept this toner because it seemed to be ok, although I have noticed it making my eyes sting a little bit recently so I may have to chuck it after all. I do like it apart from that though, nicely refreshing, and removes the last traces of make up, so it might be fine for less sensitive skin and / or eyes.

Then I go on to moisturise with, yes that's right, Boots Essentials Cucumber Moisturising Cream.

I really like this moisturiser too, like the whole range, it's very cooling and feels lovely on the skin. I have oily skin and this doesn't make me feel more oily, it soaks into the skin really well so it's fine to use in the morning before applying make up too.

I then use Roc Hydra+ Anti-Fatigue Eye Cream.

I like to use an eye cream as it's good to keep the skin around the eyes moisturised as it helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles and puffiness. However, I'm not sure that this is reducing my current dark circles, but then I'm not sure any eye cream can actually do that. Let me know if you've found one that does!

Then lastly I use a spot treatment, Elf's Zit Zapper.

I love this product. It actually does what it says on the tin, unlike other spot treatments I've tried. I've visibly noticed my spots going away much quicker when I use this than if I don't. It's fab and only £1.50 from www.eyeslipsface.co.uk. A definite must have!

So that's it. All in all I would highly recommend the Boots Essential Cucumber range for any skin type, especially good for more sensitive skin. And also I would highly recommend the Elf Zit Zapper to get rid of spots quickly!

So I thought I'd show you some pics and tell you a bit about some W7 nail varnishes I bought recently. I bought these from www.fragrancemad.co.uk and they were £3.29 and one was free, I'm not sure if this offer is still on though.

I actually ordered these on November 28th but still hadn't received them last week (w/c 3rd January). So I emailed the company and told them. I had also ordered a Bourjois Volume Glamour Ultra Black Mascara 12ml with free Eyeshadow & Lipgloss for £4.99. When I contacted Fragrance Mad they got back to me really quickly and explained that it must have gone missing in the post. They advised that the Bourjois set was now out of stock and they could either refund the whole order or refund the Bourjois set and post out the nail varnishes. I asked for the nail varnishes to still be sent. This happened on Sunday the 9th and I received my order first thing Tuesday the 11th. I was very pleased with their customer service.

So, onto the nail varnishes!

All in all I really like these nail varnishes, they go on very nice and smooth, and feel good quality. They last fairly well for an inexpensive polish, but I have found that they flake off a bit after a couple of days, I do have quite flaky nails though so that might just be me.
Hey!

This is a pink, purple and glittery eye look I created with my Elf 32 eyeshadow palette (in the close up picture above of the shadows, the colours I used were all the bottom four and the third one in from the left on the row above). The glitter is Barry M Fine Glitter Dust No4.

My lips are Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick in Nude Delight No 700 and a lipgloss I got from Primark called Opia Plumping Lip Gloss.

I went to Double Take Studios in Manchester yesterday, I had bought a makeover and photoshoot there as an early birthday present for my sister.

I bought this from the Buy a Gift website. It was a really fun day and the staff were lovely. I would definitely recommend it.

We each received a mini facial, a hand massage and then got our hair and make up done, we could choose the look we wanted or leave it up to the make up artist. I asked for a pink, purple and black eye look, I fancied something a bit out there!

Then we had some photos taken together (the studios had several set pieces for us to "pose" in front of), and then we each had our own individual photos taken. We were also asked to take three outfits each and had several photos taken in each outfit.

Check out some of the photos I took myself below!

Here are some pictures from a Tropical Eye Look I created using my Front Cover palette.

I used NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk as a base, then Magic Banana (matte yellow) all over lid, Citronella Crush (lime green) on the inner half of lid, Mermaid (turquoise) on the outer corner and blended all together. Then used Baltic Sea (aqua) on the lower lash line.

I ordered quite a few products from Elf the other day, well I had to take advantage of the free delivery over £30!

They came in the post yesterday (Saturday), I only ordered them on Wednesday so impressed with the speedy delivery!

First things first, each item came in it's own individual packaging which says the product name and colour etc, but when you take the items out, the majority do not have the colour name printed on the actual product itself, not a huge issue but annoying when you want to refer back to a product colour / name, most people probably don't keep the cardboard packaging!

NB: All of these products were £1.50 each apart from the mineral make up Warm Starter Kit which was £15 for five products.

Lip products

The first product I tried was the Therapeutic Conditioning Balm in Orange Creme. I really like this product, it smells lovely (if you like the smell of oranges!) and goes on really nicely, it's very moisturising, a really lovely lip balm for such an inexpensive price.

Next up was a huge fail, the Feather Proof Moisturising Lip Liner in Bark. This product made me so mad. I was warming it up on my hand prior to using it on my lips and it broke straight away. I then started to sharpen it (with the sharpener than comes with it) and it broke at least two more times, and then proceeded to break another time when I started to apply it to my lips. Ridiculous! Aside from that it wasn't particularly moisturising and it didn't last very long. Definitely will not re-purchase...

Luscious Liquid Lipstick in Ruby Slipper. This is a nice autumnal colour, applies well, not massively pigmented but good for the price. It smells kind of minty which is quite nice. This has a foam applicator, you twist the bottom of the lipstick and the product comes out of the top. I would describe as a lip gloss not a lipstick.

Hypershine Gloss in Sugar Plum. This smells of chocolate which is fab! Although once you've got it on it kind of tastes a bit perfumey in the mouth which isn't so nice. It's very sheer, but can be built up for more colour. Nice product.

Super Glossy Lip Shine SPF 15 in Mauve Luxe. I haven't worn this on my lips yet but when I swatched them all this was the most pigmented. It's a gorgeous colour too, a kind of deep reddy brown with a gold shimmer. This smells lovely and fruity too.

Plumping Lip Glaze in Ruby Kiss. This is a double ended product, one end is a clear gloss and the other is the colour. It's another one which is fairly sheer but can be built up. It's a nice red with pink shimmer.

Cheeks

Natural Radiance Blusher in Glow. This is a really nice natural blush, it gives a lovely glow (hence the name!) to the face. You do get an awful lot of fallout when swirling your brush around in it though. Tap off the excess!

Eyes

Duo Eye Shadow Cream in Butter Pecan. This is a disappointment too. Nice colours, a pinky bronze and a chocolate brown with a gold shimmer. I've only used the pinky bronze colour but it creased almost straight away even with a primer underneath.

Liquid Eyeshadow in Misty Mauve. This is a pale lilac with some shimmer. It comes with a foam applicator and is supposed to dry like a powder eyeshadow. I'm not particularly impressed with this product, it looks quite cheap on the eye, not very pigmented. However I do have hope for it, I think I just need to experiment with it a bit more. When I swatch it on my hand it looks lovely, so we'll see!

Brightening Eye Colour in Drama. This is a quad with a matte white, sparkly light grey/silver, sparkly dark grey and sparkly black. I've only used the light grey/silver and the matte white so far, they are quite pigmented for the price and the silver is a lovely colour. Great for daytime and can be used with the other colours to do a smokey eye too. I can't comment on the longevity of the product as I've only applied it this morning so we'll see what it looks like by tonight.

Nails

I bought three nail polishes; Mint Cream, a gorgeous pastel pale mint green, Medium Red, a basic dark red, and Clear, which is... clear! I've only used the clear one so far as am giving my nails a bit of a rest from colour for a couple of days, no problems with it so far! The other two colours look gorgeous and I can't wait to try them!

Mineral make up

I bought the Warm Starter Kit as I've heard lots of good things about mineral make up so I wanted to give it a try. This kit contains Warm Foundation, Warm Concealer, Bliss Blush, Bronzing Brush (which is angled) and Total Face Brush. I don't know if this is just the Elf products or mineral make up in general but I'm not convinced. The foundation does give a nice healthy glow to the face but both the foundation and the concealer don't provide nearly enough coverage for me. I could still see blemishes and redness after applying quite a lot! I don't see how they can provide as much coverage as liquid foundation. I want to like them so if anyone with problem skin uses and likes mineral make up please let me know, any tips would be much appreciated! I would use the blusher again, it's a nice pinky colour. On the first use of the brushes they malted an awful lot, I looked down and had a load of brush hairs all over my top. However on the second use of the bronzer brush, which I used to apply my blusher today, it was much better.

So all in all mixed feelings towards Elf so far. The products are really inexpensive but with some of them this is definitely reflected in their quality. However I really like the lip balm, blush and most of the lip glosses.

Hope this was helpful, please leave a comment below!

<div style="color: black; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="color: black; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">I've not blogged in a while because my camera / laptop won't let me upload any photos which is so frustrating! I still can't but I need to blog before I explode (or something...) so I'm going to have a picture-less blog which is pretty rubbish so I'm sorry and hopefully I'll sort the pictures issue out soon!

<div style="color: black; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="color: black; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">So as you may have guessed from the title I have got the Urban Decay Naked palette! Wooooop! I got this as a birthday present last week and I was so excited. It's every bit as good as I wanted it to be, and more.

<div style="color: black; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">If you don't know, this is an eyeshadow palette containing 12 neutral shades. They are mainly shimmery shadows but there are three matte colours (Virgin, Naked and Buck). They range from a pale nude colour (Virgin) to a gold shimmery colour (Half Baked) to shimmery black (Creep).

<div style="color: black; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">These are probably the best eyeshadows I've ever used. They are really highly pigmented so you only need a small amount (I tend to use my fingers to apply the colours, then blend with a blending brush, they are really easy to blend too). The colours are so gorgeous. You can create so many different looks with this palette. A subtle neutral daytime look, a shimmery fun look, a dark smokey eye and more! You also get a mini eyeshadow primer potion and a double ended black (Zero) and brown (Whiskey) eyeliner which are really nice and creamy, and I already have a large size primer potion which I adore, you only need a small amount and it makes your eyeshadow stay perfect all day, no creasing. The packaging of the Naked palette is gorgeous too, deep brown velvet type material with gold writing. if you like neutral shades you need this palette!

<div style="color: black; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="color: black; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">I have a few other products which I'm loving at the moment too so I'll try to quickly run through those.

<div style="color: black; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="color: black; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Face products:

L'Oreal Studio Secrets Anti-Dull Skin Primer for medium skin.
<div style="color: black; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">This is a fab primer which I use under my foundation whenever I'm going to be wearing make-up all day, so every day for work basically! It a kind of orangey-pink colour which looks a bit scary but as the name of it suggests it's supposed to make your skin look less dull. I really like this product as it's really easy to blend, you don't need a lot and it creates a nice base for foundation and helps keep it looking fab all day.

<div style="color: black; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="color: black; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Estee Lauder Double Wear in Desert Beige
<div style="color: black; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">This is my every day foundation at the moment and I love it. I like a full coverage foundation as I don't have the best skin, a lot of redness and I always have some blemishes going on. This gives such good coverage and you only need a small amount. The colour is perfect for my skin too. One word of warning though: this comes out of the bottle really fast so be careful!

<div style="color: black; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="color: black; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">NARS Sheer Matte in Santa Fe
<div style="color: black; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">This is a foundation I tend to use if I want less coverage or a more natural look. As the name suggests it is a sheer foundation but it still gives an amount of coverage which I'm comfortable with if I have fewer blemishes and am maybe just doing something during the day on a weekend. This is the complete opposite of the Double Wear in terms of getting it out of the bottle, it's a bloomin' pain! I'd recommend keeping it upside down if you can so you're not shaking it for ages trying the get the product out! Also you can get NARS Sheer Glow, I got the Matte version as I have oily skin.

<div style="color: black; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="color: black; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Eyes:
GOSH Velvet Touch Eyeliner in Hypnotic Grey and Purple Stain.
<div style="color: black; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">These were also birthday presents and I love them. They're really creamy, easy to apply liners. I like to use them on my lower lash line as close to the lashes as possible (not on the water line) from the outer corner to about 3/4 of the way in then smudge, great for an everyday look and really brings out the eyes.

<div style="color: black; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">
Rimmel Lash Accelerator in Black
<div style="color: black; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Gorgeous mascara, really lengthens and thickens the lashes, really easy to apply and doesn't make the lashes clumpy at all. Fab, inexpensive mascara!

<div style="color: black; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">
Beauty UK Eyeshadow palette in No4
<div style="color: black; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">This is a palette of 10 shadows, it includes, black, two greys, 3 browns, two greens, one cream and one white. It was really inexpensive (about £3 from Superdrug) and I was really impressed with it. I wore some of these shadows with no primer and they lasted really well. It's a great neutral palette which is a small size so great for travelling. This is the first product I've tried by Beauty UK so I'll be interested to try some more! Would definitely recommend for a cheap treat!

<div style="color: black; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">
Nails:
Famous nail varnish in Nude (20).
<div style="color: black; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">This is the first product I've tried by Famous and I really liked it. It's a beigey nude colour with a hint of pink and some gold shimmer, fab for a neutral work look.

<div style="color: black; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="color: black; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Lips:
Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick in Nude Delight (700)
<div style="color: black; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">As you may have noticed I'm really into neutral shades at the moment! This is a great nude colour for me (probably wouldn't work for all skin tones). I'd describe it as a pinky-peach colour, it's quite creamy and nice to apply, and is great to wear with a more dramatic eye look. Also would work with a neutral gloss over the top to make it more shiny as it's quite matte. On a separate note I love the smell of this lipstick, it's so old school. May not be to everyone's taste but I like it!

<div style="color: black; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="color: black; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">So that's it guys! Hope you enjoyed and sorry again about the lack of pictures!

<div style="color: black; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">
I just practically finished writing this out and then closed down the tab by mistake and lost it all, doh!

So, let me try again!

Hi!

I just wanted to share my excitement with you all! I've just gone a bit mad shopping online, once I receive the products I will do a little review of them for you but for now I'll go through what I bought!
So as I say there were a few things but the main products I'm excited about are:

NYX Jumbo Eye Shadow Pencil in Milk

I bought this because I've seen it used in quite a few tutorials on You Tube and it looks great. I love the chunky look of the packaging too. From what I've seen of it it looks like a really versatile pure white pencil, great for highlighting the inner corner of the eye and using on the lid with other colours too.

Sigma Brushes

These were also a purchase done on the back of watching a lot of You Tube vids. A lot of people have them, mention them and use them in tutorials. I really want to start a good brush collection. At the moment I have one good brush which is by Victoria Jackson and is a short big fluffy brush (sorry, I don't know the name of it - it was a Christmas present from my sister), which is really soft and lovely. The other brushes I've got (which come to a grand total of about 5) are lame, I don't even know the brand. So, now I'm getting more into make up I felt the need to invest in some good brushes! Sigma seemed like a good place to start as they seem to have a good reputation and also appear to be less expensive than MAC or Bobbi Brown.

The brushes I got were;
F70 Concealer Brush (£5.99)
E05 Eye Liner Brush (£5.99)
F30 Large Powder Brush (£10.99)
E55 Eye Shading Brush (£7.99)

I also got some Michael Todd Gel Eye Liner in Black Ebony to try.

I wanted a black as it's just really versatile, you can wear it dark and dramatic for a night out, or lighter and smudged for a daytime look. I've only ever used pencil liners and have heard good things about gel liner (specifically the Bobbi Brown one but they're a little out of my price range!) This was £9.50.

All the above products were from www.love-makeup.co.uk.

Last and not least is the Urban Decay EyeShadow Primer Potion. This was £11.50 from www.boots.com.

Again, I'm a sucker for a YouTube tutorial with this, and for pretty packaging. I bought a lot of primers in this splurge (face, mascara and eye) which I'll review once I've used them as I think a good base is key to good make-up so I've got high hopes for all of them!

So.... I am now broke but really looking forward to my deliveries!

Please comment if you have tried any of the above products and let me know what you think and I'll come back with reviews soon!

Bye!
xx

So today I'm going to go through some of my favourite beauty products of the moment.

The first item is Tesco Sun Protection 15 Medium SPF New Formulation 200ml.

This is a product which I bought just to use as a basic sun lotion. However I recently ran out of normal body lotion and this is what I used instead. Obviously I'm not using it as a sun block at the moment as summer is definitely over!

I really like this product, often with body lotions I find they are really hard to get out of the bottle (yes I'm talking about you Palmers!). Also, they always seem to take ages to rub in, my arm actually aches sometimes! The Tesco Sun Protection comes out easily and rubs in quickly.

It also has a gorgeous smell which really reminds of summer holidays, a very summery, nostalgic scent.

Some of the benefits of using this lotion are;

Obviously it protects your skin from the sun, even when it's not hot the suns rays can still damage your skin so this is a big bonus.

It is anti-ageing. It contains green tea and vitamin E to help combat signs of ageing caused by the sun.

Another thing I like about this product is the shape of the bottle! It reminds me of a segment of an orange! Maybe that's just me....

Lastly, and the most important I guess, is it leaves my skin feeling really soft, and not sticky like some lotions.

This is currently retailing on Tesco.com at £1.00 until 26th September 2010. They only appear to have it in SPF 50 though.

The second set of products I'm loving are Nivea Visage Refreshing 2 in 1 Cleanser and Toner 200ml

and Nivea Visage Oil Free Moisturising Fluid 100ml.

I bought these as I had run out of my Simple Kind to Skin Purifying Cleansing Lotion and wanted to try something new.
Both the packaging and the name of the products suggest a fresh light product and that's exactly what they are. I have sensitive skin so I need a product which is gentle as well. These are both really lovely products if you have sensitive or oily skin. I love having a cleanser and toner in one, anything which cuts down on time spent is great. The moisturiser is really light and soaks into the skin really well. They both have a lovely fresh, sweet smell too.

I bought these from Wilkinson's and they were roughly £3.50 each. (Apologies about the lack of accuracy, I can't quite remember and I've thrown away the receipt, oops!)

My next super duper product is Boots Gorgeous Feet Rapid Cracked Heel Repair 100ml.

(Sorry about the lame tiny picture, my camera is refusing to upload pictures so I had to Google an image instead - you can go the Boots website for a closer look.)
I have had this product for quite a while and only used it occasionally. I think this is because it was winter and therefore my feet weren't on show as much. However, during the summer I have been using this basically every time I have a bath or shower. I use this all over my feet, not just on my heels, and you only need a fairly small amount as it's quite a thick consistency. It has quite a sickly sweet smell which might not be to everyone's taste, but I like it! And as it's only going on your feet so it's not as big a deal as it would be if you were putting it all over your body!

I've practically run out of this product and I will definitely be getting some more in as it really does make a difference to the softness of the skin on my feet, especially my heels. It's currently retailing for £4.99 on the Boots website and they also have an offer at the moment which is buy 1 get 2nd half price on selected foot care products.

My next fave product of the mo is Nails Inc Shoreditch nail varnish.

This is a gorgeous hot pink colour. If you don't like pink this is not the colour for you as it is very pink indeed! I really liked this nail varnish, it was a lovely consistency to apply, and it lasted really well before chipping. I applied it on a Wednesday night and didn't see a chip till Friday, I didn't use a base or top coat and I am typing constantly at work so I think that's pretty good! I really want to buy a lot more of Nail Inc's varnishes, I'm thinking of getting some more nude colours as they're good for work and you can get away with them being a bit chipped as it's not quite as noticeable!

These are currently £10.50 from the Nails Inc website.

Last, but not least, is Johnson's Cotton Buds.

I started using these after watching a video on You Tube by JuicyStar07 called How To: Make Your Eyeliner Last All Day. http://www.youtube.com/user/juicystar07#p/u/3/da0w8mIPO1M

In this video she recommends rubbing a cotton bud along your water line (this is the flap of skin eyeliner is applied to) before applying eyeliner. I thought this was a really simple, inexpensive trick so bought some! Obviously cotton buds can be used for lots of other things as well which is what's great about them, cheap and versatile! And you can of course get other brands of cotton buds than Johnson's.

I bought these from a local chemists, they are usually £1 - £2, depending on the size of the pot.

So these are my current favourite products! Hope you enjoyed reading and please leave a comment!
